Rearing Calves & Stirks 020824
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 121 Rearing Calves and Stirks forward.
A smaller, mixed show was forward today but plenty of buyers ensured all classes were exceptionally well bid for. The sale topped at £1,100 for a lovely suckler-bred British Blue heifer from first-time consignors, Messrs NM Breaks, Church Stile Farm, Clitheroe.
Messrs RJ & FM Grierson, Musgrave Hall, sold a dairy-bred British Blue heifer, 9-months-old to £900, with this run of 5 heifers averaging £850. Wagyu stirks topped at £700 for a 10-month-old bull from Messrs Musgrave, Cardew Hall.
Calves topped at £550 for an Aberdeen Angus bull from Mr R Dawson, Southwaite Farm. Brackenburgh Home Farm sold British Blue bulls to £470 for 3-months-old, with this consignment of 10 British Blue and Aberdeen Angus calves averaging £403. Messrs RW & AJ Jackson, Clarks Farm, sold a lovely 5-week-old Limousin bull to £390. Messrs JG & LM Kindleysides, Wickerslack, sold a pair of 4-week-old British Blue bulls to £330. Black & White calves topped at £260 for a 3-month-old bull from Skirwith Abbey.
