On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 3,106 Prime Hoggs.
Another good entry of 3106 hoggs with a blistering trade and a dramatic rise on the week. A mass of heavy hoggs once again resulting in a whole sale average of £163 per head overall 367sqq for only 980 sheep, overall average 337ppk.
Topping the days trading at 464ppk came for 2 lovely hoggs Beltex hoggs weighing 36kg realising £167 from Messrs Lowis, Galloper Park. Closely followed at 460ppk came for 3 Beltex’s weighing 43kg achieving £198 from Messrs R Noble, Murrah Hall.
Top price per head of £200 came for a pen of 5 Texel hoggs weighing 68kg from Messrs A H Ritson, Ireby Hall.
Suffolks sold to £187 for a pen of 22 weighing 63kg from Holme House. Ppk for Suffolks topped the scale at 372ppk or £145. Mules sold to a top of £185 for a pen of 20 weighing 60kg from Messrs H M & R Ivinson, Hole House. Clipped Mules led the ppk from The Crew team from The Gall for a pen of 11 weighing 44kg achieving £155.
More hill sheep are starting to appear with demand strong for this type. Cheviots sold at 379ppk for weighing 33kg selling at £125 again from W R Crew, The Gall.
Herdwicks topped at 366ppk from the Blands Family Clea Hall for a pen of 21 weighing 41kg achieving £150. Leading the charge on consignment averages for a pen of 22 selling to average £184.27.

On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 3,676 Cast Ewes & Rams.
Ewes travelled from across the nations to witness a ringside of 14 active buyers. Ensuring the dearest trade of 2026 yet, with all sold averaging £154.63 this including 1123 Hill ewes, with most classes up £8-£10 ahead.
Topping the sale at £360 from Ballymaderphy Road, Northern Ireland with a pair of ultimate pure ewes selling to AJ Meats, Birmingham. Very closely followed a £335 for a pen of 6 pures, once again from Mr M Mcnally. A further 27 ewes sold in excess of £300.
With 552 selling over £200 ahead Suffolks topped at £246 with number pens £200 plus with larger pens achieving £215 x11, £211 x£212, £208 x18, £198 x17, £196 x19, £195 x12, £194 x18, £192 x23, £190 x10.
The best Scotch Mules to £194 from Mr CB Abernethy, with larger pens to £175 x18, £167x 20, £160 x18, £158 x17, £157 x38, £157 x27, £156 x28.
Horned Ewes sold with great ease with plenty of pens £120 ahead plus topping at £150 for Scotch Blackface, with medium weight. Meat ewes achieving £136 x18, £134 x13, £128 x28, £125 x20, £124 x21, £119 x12, £116 x38.
Swaledale Ewes to £128 from M/s Lightfoot, Gill Side for a pen of 18 and Pure bred Herdwicks to £124 from O Woodward, Cheshire.
Cast Rams hit a high of £128 with numerous £200 plus and not forgetting the fast fierce Goat trade with meat young bulls to £148 selling to Mr K Harryman.
