On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their March Special Show & Sale of 444 Store Cattle, kindly sponsored by PFK Rural & Katy Edgar’s Outside Catering.
The early morning judging was in the capable hands of Mr B Phillips, Bridge Close, Northallerton.
Champion Honours went to a fantastic Charolais bullock from Mary Wilson, Hardrigg Hall, which later went on to realise £2900 selling to Mr D Barker, Scarborough.
Reserve Championship accolades were awarded to Amy Wilson, also Hardrigg Hall which sold for the days top price of £2960.00 purchased again by Mr D Barker.
Some beautiful bulling heifers were forward throughout the sale with Messrs M T P & S D Wills, Fawcett Park topping at £2815 purchased by Mr P Foley closely followed at £2795 for a pair from Messrs Wales, Thackwood selling to the same buyer. A total of 24 cattle in excess of £2600.
Messrs R & M Smithson, Bloan Farm topped consignment average selling 4 at £2,672.50. Messrs Strong, Well House sold 18 to average £2,559.44. Another brilliant entry of Dairy Bred cattle also on offer with trade here in Penrith continuing to be exceptionally strong.
Angus bullocks sold to £2475 for 24 months old from Mr M Lister, Hill Top. Black & White bullocks topped at £2205 from Itonfield Ltd, Street Head.
Our March sale included another excellent show of 8 – 12 month old cattle which brought large crowds short of numbers for this class. Elliott Bros, Harbour Flat selling 10 to average £2002 with runs from Messrs W E & B Wilson, Undercragg selling 19 to average £1984 and Messrs E J Ivinson & Sons, Skelling Farm selling 17 to average £1967. Messrs T H Harrison, Sleddale Hall sold his 1st prize winning 10 month old Limousin x heifer realising £2275 and a fantastic shaped British Blue bullock at £2885.
