Another outstanding day’s trading at Penrith Auction saw 2,344 lambs forward, averaging £156.49 per head—£15 more than the corresponding week last year—and a whole sale average of 331p/kg. The day’s trade topped at 439p/kg for a superb 41kg lamb from R A Crichton, Rottington Hall, which realised £180. Numerous pens sold for more than 400p/kg. The top price per head was £210 for 61kg Texel lambs from R W & G Dickinson, High Knipe. A number of lambs sold for more than £200. Mr M G Hunter, Oaklands, sold a cracking pen of 14 Texel lambs, weighing 62kg and realising £207 per head.
