On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 3,665 Prime Hoggs.
Another brilliant entry of 3,663 Prime Hoggs were forward with some excellent runs of well-fed Hoggs coming forward. An exceptional trade held up throughout the sale resulting in a sale average of 372sqq or 339 overall ppk £165.60 per head.
Topping the day’s trading at 517ppk for a pen weighing 36kg realising £186 from M/s M Bindloss & Son, Shap Abbey. Closely followed at 492ppk came for a pen of 3 Beltex at 39kg achieving £192 from M/s A & A Little, Hollands, who travelled down for their first time selling.
Top price per head of £200 came for a pen of 4 weighing 44kg or 455ppk from M/s J C Robinson, Black Leases. Mules saw a big lift this week for all classes, M/s H M & R Ivinson & Son, Hole House sold his run of 94 heavy Mules to average 59kg at £181.83 per head.
M/s S & W Maughan, Street House sold a run of 40 Mules to average 342.5ppk or £156 per head for 45.5kg. Suffolks sold to £188 for a pen of 11 at 59kg from RW & G Dickinson, High Knipe.
A large entry of hill bred sheep are coming forward with demand strong for all types. Top consignment average of £184.93 came from M/s A H Ritson, Ireby Hall for his run of 42 heavies. Also selling there run of Hoggs at £184 came from M/s W Murray & Sons, Prior House for 32.

We also conducted our light lamb collection at around 12:30pm on a Wednesday, where yesterday we had 627 lambs over the weigh bridge. All weights up to 39kg can be handled don’t hesitate to contact if you have some to sell.
