Today we held our sale of in-lamb breeding sheep and geld gimmer hoggs, to include dispersal sales from Mr JH Slack, Brougham Castle & Messrs TW & C Holmes, Langton Gate.
A great entry of genuine, honest breeding sheep was forward to a packed ringside of buyers, all very eager to purchase with demand meaning many more could have been sold to vendors’ advantage.
The sale topped at £395 per head for a pen of 12 Texel X Beltex gimmer shearlings from Mr JH Slack, Brougham Castle, carrying 4 singles and 8 twins, due 16th March onwards, purchased by Mr SL Atkinson, Augill House Farm. This was closely followed at £380 for a pen of 10 Texel X 2-shear ewes from the same home, scanned 2 single & 6 twins, purchased by local neighbours Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton Moor. This run of 161 Texel X Beltex ewes and shearlings averaged a staggering £330.28.
The trade of the day went to Messrs TW & C Holmes, Langton Gate, with their consignment of full-mouthed Mule ewes, scanned over 200%, achieving £360, £340 & £330 per head.
Some superb geld hoggs were forward from Messrs R Hall & Son, Inglewood Edge, achieving £290 for ultimate Beltex’s, selling to Messrs Dent, Elm House, this home also sold Suffolk X hoggs to £200 per head, all vaccinated for Enzo & Toxo.
Mr W Messenger, Howes Farm, sold 11 North of England Mule geld hoggs to £190
