On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 188 Rearing Calves and Stirks forward.
A larger offering of both calves and stirks was forward with all classes being very easy to sell, a result of our busy ringside of buyers.
Young calves hit some record prices, with Messrs GL Armstrong & Son, Blunderfield East, selling a 2-month-old British Blue bull to £550, purchased by Mr M Forbes.
Messrs W Threlfell & Son, Plumpton Head, sold a consignment of twenty, 9-12-day-old British Blue calves, topping at £315 for a bull, with numerous other lots from this home achieving £280-£300.
Messrs JD & F Wharton, Town Head Farm, sold a consignment of 4-week-old British Friesian bulls to average £250, topping at £340.
Stirks topped at £850 for an 11-month-old Limousin X heifer from Mr WA Armstrong, County Durham, with this home also selling Aberdeen Angus bullocks, 8-9-months-old to £750 & £740.
A 10-month-old dairy-bred British Blue bull realised £800 from Messrs JM & RM Haston, Dearham Hall, with this home also selling a pen of four aged 5-6-month-old to £690.
