On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 130 Rearing Calves and Stirks forward.
A smaller entry of calves and stirks was forward with calf numbers lower than we’ve seen for a while, customers were still eager to purchase well-reared calves.
The sale topped at £890 for a cracking Limousin bull, 8-months-old from Messrs A & A Little, Hollands, with this home selling a run of 6 suckler-bred stirks to average £860.
First-time consignors, Messrs KC & J Mason, Brook House Green, made the trip from Preston and topped the dairy-bred section at £885 for a pair of 10-month-old British Blue bullocks, purchased by Messrs JH & ME Chappelhow, Friendship Farm.
Messrs JH & E Ivinson, Plumpton Foot, sold yearling Hereford X dairy heifers to top at £735 for a pen of 3. Many more stirks could easily be sold here to vendors advantage, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
The calf section topped at £500 for a British Blue bull, 6-weeks-old, from Messrs Turnbull, Monks House, with this home also topping the heifers at £400 for the same age. Messrs JAH Walton & Son, Bank View, sold a 9-week-old Aberdeen Angus bull to £450. Black & White calves continue to sell well, topping at £255 for a pen of 3 from Ellaway Ltd, The Elephant, with this home also selling others to £240.
