Rearing Calves & Stirks 070624
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 134 Rearing Calves and Stirks forward.
A smaller show was forward but trade remained exceptionally buoyant with a ringside full of eager buyers. The sale topped at £980 for a British Blue bullock, 12-months-old, from Messrs Mallinson, Hall Field, with this home also selling Aberdeen Angus heifers to £870.
Mr B Hogg, Cairnbridge Farm, sold a packet of 10 Aberdeen Angus heifers to £685 per head. Black & White bull stirks topped at £670 for a pen of 4 Friesians, 10-months-old from Messrs H Noble & Sons, Sootyhill. Many more stirks could easily be sold to our growing ringside of customers.
Calves are also seeing a massive amount of interest, topping at £640 for a 5-month-old British Blue bull from Harrison Livestock, Penny Hill Park, with this home also topping the heifer section at £530 for a Limousin.
Mr DW Mallinson, Lodge Farm sold a consignment of 5 Limousin bulls & heifers, 10-weeks-old to average £474. Ellaway Ltd, The Elephant, sold a packet of 7 Black & White bulls, 10-weeks-old to average £231.43. A good show of Black & White calves sold exceptionally well and many more are needed here fortnightly.
