On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their sale of 392 Breeding Sheep.
A very busy ring side of buyers were present, a reflection of the up-turn in the weather and prosperous trade in the prime ring. The sale averaged a hefty £90 a life the majority forward aged and broken mouthed Ewes.
Several consignments sold averaged in excess of £100 ahead with Mr T Brogden, Hellbeck averaging £107.45, topping at £126 for full mouth Texel Ewes with twin lambs at foot.
Mr WJ Messenger, Howes Farm, sold two cracking pens of 3-shear Mule Ewes with twin Suffolk lambs to £97 & £96 a life, £291 a family.
Mr KJ Batty, Dryevers, sold a consignment of first-cross Texel shearlings with twin lambs at foot to average £116.38 topping at £122.
Our next sale of breeding sheep, the Annual “New Fair” Prize Show & Sale of Hoggs, Ewes & Shearlings with Lambs at Foot & Geld Gimmer Hoggs “Troutbeck” Sale of Swaledale, Herdwick & Hill-bred Ewes with Lambs at Foot will be held on will be held on Tuesday 7th May, entries close Noon Tuesday 30th April.
