On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their sale of 38 Dairy Cattle.
Our final sale of dairy cattle this year was a huge success all through, with the trade being extremely strong for all classes and purchasers very confident in spending the extra few pounds on genuine quality.
The sale topped at £2500 for a superb second-calved Holstein Friesian cow, giving 39 litres three-weeks-calved, a beast correct in every way possible, pure class and style from Mr WR Wilson, South View, purchased by Messrs TJ & JM Powley, Blands Farm. This homes consignment of 3 cattle averaged £2400.
A pair of British Friesian cross Dairy Shorthorn heifers from Mrs S Armstrong & Sons, Moorriggs, achieved a top of £2200, giving 30 litres, selling to Messrs D & KI Clemetson, Outgang Farm.
A few older British Friesian cows were forward and achieved a very fast trade, with Messrs EA & A Dodd, Roanstrees, selling a second-calver to £1800, giving 20 litres, calved one week, purchased by Mr WH Brass, Crosby Ravensworth.
