Store Cattle 250923

On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their Annual Michaelmas Prize Show & Sale of 592 Store Cattle & Feeding Bulls, kindly sponsored by PFK Rural.

Our pre-sale show was expertly judged by Mr Thomas Toppin, Gale Hall, who placed a lovely 16-month-old Limousin cross bullock from Messrs GT & CA Blezard, Scale House Farm, which later realised £1660 purchased by Bolster Moor Farm Shop.  Reserve Champion honours went to Messrs Bindloss, Shap Abbey for their first prize Limousin heifer, selling for £1450 to Mr J Crichton.

Limousin Heifer
1st Messrs Bindloss, Shap Abbey (lot 230), selling for £1,540, to Mr JJ Crichton, Loughrigg.
2nd Messrs Bindloss, Shap Abbey (lot 229), selling for £1,395, to Mr W Armstrong, Durham.

3rd Messrs DW & TA Bell, High Dyke Farm (lot 358), selling for £1,775, to Mr JJ Crichton, Loughrigg.

Champion - First placed Limousin bullock from Messrs GT & CA Blezard, Scale House Farm.

Reserve Champion - First placed Limousin heifer from Messrs Bindloss, Shap Abbey.

A blistering sale was had with fleshed cattle of all ages and sizes exceptionally good to sell, topping todays sale at £2050 came from Mr JD Bowman, Croft House, for a cracking 27-month-old Limousin bullock, with this same home selling another Limousin bullock to £1925.

Messrs WH Brass, Low Row, peaked with their run at £2045 for a fabulous Limousin bullock.

Heifers topped at £1775 on two occasions, firstly for 17-month-old, Limousin cross heifer from Messrs DW & TA Bell, High Dyke.  Secondly again for another Limousin cross, 28-months-old from J Shields, Gooselands View Barn, this home also sold Angus heifers to £1625 for the same age.

Native cattle topped at £1895 from Messrs WH Brass, Low Row.  Messrs BS & J Strong, Hewer Hill, sold a fantastic run of 15-16mth-old, homebred suckler stores to average £1590 and to a top of £1790. 

Store cattle continue to be short of requirements and many more fleshy cattle are required to fulfil demand on a fortnightly basis.
