Rearing Calves & Stirks 040823
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 200 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A much larger entry of calves and stirks was forward on the fortnight, with plenty of customers for all classes.
The sale topped at £890 for a cracking pair of Limousin bull stirks from Messrs Mattocks, Auldby Farm, this home also sold a pen of 9 Black & White bulls to £610.
Messrs RJ & FM Grierson, Musgrave Hall, sold some fantastic 12-month-old Belted Galloway bulls to average £826, topping at £870. Heifer stirks topped at £740 for a lovely yearling Limousin from Messrs R Noble, Murrah Hall.
Another flying trade was witnessed for calves with all classes keenly bid for, topping at £530 for a Limousin bull from Skirwith Abbey. Messrs Turnbull, Monks House, achieved £440 for an 8-week-old British Blue bull, closely followed at £410 for a 5-week-old British Blue bull from Messrs W Threlfell & Son, Plumpton Head.
Black & White calves sold with ease, topping at £240 from Messrs J & AG Nicholson, Causeway Foot Farm.
