Rearing calves & stirks 070723
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 155 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A good show of cattle was forward, calves were exceptionally good to sell with demand as high as seen for some time.
The sale topped at £1,100 for a fabulous 10-month-old Limousin X bullock from Messrs A & A Little, Hollands, this home also topped the heifer section at £900 for a 10-month-old Limousin, with this run of 4 cattle averaging £920. The bull section topped at £900 for a 14-month-old Limousin X from Messrs Mattocks, Auldby Farm, this home also sold Black & White bulls to £740, with other pens achieving £700 & £680.
A brilliant offering of younger calves was forward with a flying trade to match, topping at £550 for a lovely 4-month-old Limousin bull from Messrs Todhunter, Beeches Farm. A fabulous 2-month-old British Blue bull achieved £505 from Turnbull Farming, Monks House.
Skirwith Abbey sold a fantastic run of strong calves with a pair of Limousin heifers realising £470.
Black & White calves continue to be short of buyers’ requirements with Messrs RW & AJ Jackson, Clarks Farm, selling a pair aged 2-months-old to £270.
