Penrith Prime Sheep 14.12.22
On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 5,278 prime sheep, comprising 2,523 prime lambs & 2,755 cast ewes and rams.
Another fantastic entry of sheep across the board at Penrith, with a fabulous run of prime lambs throughout the sale. Quality oozed throughout with an exquisite offering of well fed and well finished lambs, credit to all vendors.
Trade reflected the quality on offer with a blistering sale throughout with an SQQ lift of 18p on the week. 272sqq/260ppk all through £118pph with 420 lambs selling in excess of 300ppk. 96 lambs selling in excess of £140.
Topping today’s sale at 365ppk on 2 separate occasions both lots from Messrs Gardner, Glebelands. Firstly, for a lovely pen of 6 weighing 40kg and realising £146 purchased by Mr J Blenkhorn. Secondly for a pen of 3 light 37kg Beltex selling to £135 purchased by Mr R Vivers. Messrs Gardner’s run of 31, exceptionally finished Beltex Lambs sold to average 41kg/328ppk @ £136.45.
Topping per head at £157 for a 72kg Texel X lamb from Messrs C Riley, 18 Brooklands Grange. Weight remained in high demand at Penrith Auction with some great consignments present. Messrs Irving, East Cliff sold 34 meaty lambs to average 51kg /£136.94. Messrs Hird, Broomhills sold 18 Suffolk lambs, 56kg/£134.67. A Williamson, Dykehead had 20 great Beltex X Lambs @44kg to average £133.90. Robert Dickinson, High Knipe sold 103 brilliant Texel X Lambs to average 47kg/£132.52. Some lovely runs of export lambs also averaged extremely well.
Messrs Rogerson, Maisongill sold 31 excellent Beltex Lambs, to average 39kg @ 328ppk £130.61.
Messrs Lowis, Galloper Park also sold 26 fabulous Beltex Lambs @ 40kg/324ppk/£131.81.
Mule Lambs were in high demand topping at £129 on 2 occasions first from Messrs Lowis, Waterside House for 23 @ 53kg. Secondly for a pen of 17 @ 52kg from Messrs C Riley, Brooklands Grange.
Another great entry of cast ewes were forward for the time of year with trade sharper on the week. With national numbers starting to decline. Topping the sale at £290 for a great Texel ewe from Messrs Jackson, Lingstubbs. Strong Texel type ewes continue to be in high demand. Messrs Clubbs, Old Walls sold a pen of 15 great Texel X Ewes to £200 Beltex ewes sold to £230 from Messrs Towers. A small offering of Mule ewes topped at £112 from Messrs Todhunter, The Beeches. A great pen of 17 Cheviot ewes sold to £116 from Messrs Dickinson, High Knipe. Scotch Blackfaced to £111 for 9 from Backmuir.
