Calves & Stirks - 25.11.22
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 162 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A great days trading was had with all classes of stock dearer on the week. The sale topped at £800 for a pair of Limousin bullocks from Lane Head Farming, Northumberland.
Calves took the greatest rise in trade, with the most demand seen for a few weeks. This section topped at £430 for a lovely 12-week-old British Blue heifer calf from Messrs Todhunter, The Beeches, purchased by Messrs JG & RW Nevinson & Son, High House Farm, this consignment averaged £423.75. Young calves topped at £400 for an 8-week-old British Blue bull from Turnbull Farming.
First time consigner Messrs KA & PJ Woodman, Hill House, sold a great run of 4-week-old calves to top at £320 for a British Blue heifer and £250 for a pair of Aberdeen Angus bulls. Messrs Walsh, Bunkers Hill, sold some great pure Friesian calves to top at £365.
Stirks are still in demand with Aberdeen Angus bullocks topping at £640 from Messrs Tyson, Fox Tower View, selling to Mr C Hebson. Limousin heifers topped at £770 from Lane Head Farming, purchased by Messrs MTP & SD Wills, Fawcett Park.
