On Monday Penrith & District Farmers Mart held their fortnightly sale of 81 OTM cattle.
Some superb cast cows were forward to a complete ringside of buyers, with demand being very strong. The sale topped at £2137.28/266.5ppk for a pure British Blue cow from Messrs P & MR Carruthers, Raw Foot, purchased by Mr Owain Llyr. This was closely followed at £2084.46/264.5ppk for a Limousin X British Blue cow from Messrs PJ & ES Rogerson, Maisongill, also purchased by Mr Owain Llyr.
Messrs G & JE Bell, Far Broom, sold an 8-year-old, well-fed 843kg Limousin X cow to £1900.97, purchased by Mr D Barker.
Young dairy-bred cows topped at £1380.93/227.5ppk for a British Blue X, weighing 607kg from Messrs IS & CA Mounsey, Town Head.
Black & White cows, straight out the parlour, topped at £1453.50/161.5ppk for a Friesian, weighing 900kg from Messrs Mallinson, Hall Field, purchased by Mr T Fell. This was closely followed at £1390.17/155.5ppk for a 12-year-old Holstein, weighing 894kg from Messrs H & EM Hunter & Son, Berrier.
A 10-year-old, none-farm assured dairy-bred Hereford cow achieved £1376.96/165.5ppk from Messrs JA & NR Birkett, Briery Moss.
A 12-year-old Blue Grey cow, weighing 623kg realised £931.39149.5ppk from Messrs K & SJ Tyson, Dancing Gate.
