Rearing Calves & Stirks 220722
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 186 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A much larger offering of all classes was forward to an extremely busy ringside of buyers. The sale topped at £820 for an eleven-month-old British Blue heifer from Messrs WJ Whitfield, Pennine View, purchased by Mr C Maclennan, Stirling, with this consignment of Limousin and British Blue heifers averaging £775.
Messrs Bowness & Spedding, Galemire House, Cleator Moor, sold a consignment of Limousin cross Friesian bulls, 6 to 7-months-old to average £675.55, topping at £700.
The largest show of young calves we’ve had for a long time was forward, selling exceptionally well. Messrs JH & JE Taylor, The Harras, sold 12-week-old British Blue bulls to £500. Closely followed at £490, also for a 12-week-old British Blue bull from Messrs GL Armstrong & Son, Blunderfield East.
A pair of Montbeliarde bulls, 3-weeks-old achieved £102 from Mr C Dent, Kirkby Thore, purchased by Mr D Holgate. A seven-week-old British Blue bull calf realised £420 from Brackenburgh Home Farm, purchased by Messrs M Ridsdale & Son.
