Rearing calves & stirks 240622
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 111 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A smaller show of all sections sold to an extended ringside of buyers, with purchasers for all classes.
The sale topped at £960 for an 8-month-old, suckler-bred Limousin cross bullock from Messrs Elliott Bros, Harbour Flatt, purchased by Mr J Field, Calthwaite, with heifers from the same home achieving £850 purchased by Messrs MTP and SD Wills, Fawcett Park.
Young calves sold well, with first time vendors Messrs CM & CS Chappelhow, High Grounds, Clifton Dykes, selling British Blues to £590 for heifers and £570 for bulls, all out of British Friesian cows, purchased by Messrs R & P Harrison, Hawbank Farm.
A consignment of six British Blue cross bulls and heifers, 12-weeks-old, from Messrs Turnbull, Monks House, averaged £420.83.
A consignment of six Friesian bull stirks, 5-months-old, topped at £410 from Messrs Mattocks, Aulby Farm, purchased by Mr S Cooper. Young Black & White calves were in short supply with plenty of demand.
