Second New Fair & Troutbeck Breeding Ewes & Lambs 240522
On Tuesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their second “New Fair” sale of 3,300 Hoggs, Ewes & Shearlings with Lambs at Foot & Geld Gimmer Hoggs together with the “Troutbeck” sale of Swaledale, Herdwick and Hill Bred Ewes with Lambs at foot.
A marvellous entry was forward with demand as strong as ever and buyers out in force from all over the country ensuring all classes were strongly bid for.
Hoggs and lambs would see a £10 per head increase across the board, especially the more commercial end of the sale.
The sale topped at £150 per life for a pen of 18 Suffolk cross Mule hoggs with single lambs at foot, from Mr N Edmondson, Sheargreen Barn, Ulverston, this outstanding consignment comprising of Suffolk cross Mule hoggs with good, strong, lengthy lambs at foot averaged £149.38 per life, purchased by Mr J Rutter-Armstrong.
Also achieving £150 per life was a pen of Mule hoggs in great order with cracking lambs at foot from Messrs J Winter, Clickham, purchased by Messrs Proctor, Kirkby Stephen.
Messrs Holliday, Clea Mire, achieved £148 per life for a pen of 6 Texel cross Beltex hoggs with single Beltex lambs at foot, purchased by Mr AJ Bell, Thethwaite, this consignment averaged a staggering £144.13.
Ewes sold exceptionally well throughout the day with Texel cross aged ewes with Beltex lambs at foot achieving £128 per life from Messrs F & MP Allinson, West Briscoe.
Troutbeck sheep topped at £86 per life for aged Cheviot ewes with Texel lambs at foot from Mr G Fisher, Midtown.
