Calves & Stirks - 01.04.22
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 164 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
Numbers came forward again with plenty of demand and several new faces around the ring ensuring buyers for all classes.
The sale topped at £825 for a pair of Limousin bullocks 9 month old from first time vendors from Wakefield. Closely followed at £820 for a pair of Hereford bullocks 14 months old from Mr N Hitchen, Halifax purchased by M/s R G Todd. With this consignment of 14 yearling Hereford & Limousin bullocks and heifers averaging £762.14.
A consignment of 5 month old British Blue bulls and heifers to average £523.75, topping at £550 for a pen of 3 being purchased by Mr B Atkinson.
Black and White’s were in short supply all day especially calves 2 weeks – 2 months old. The sale selection topped at £375 for weaned Friesian Stirk from M/s N M Strong Ltd, Street House and 10 week old Holstein calves from M/s Armstrong, Wolfa averaging £115.
Orders went along way short of requirements more are required for our sale in a fortnight.
Young continental calves met a two tiered trade with quality being exceptional to sell and short of requirements with Mr D W Mallinson selling a pair of Limousin x British Friesian heifers 10 weeks old to achieve £450 purchased by Mr B Ridsdale. M/s A D & F E Elliott, Askrigg Hall sold Flekvieh bull calves 28 days old to £165 and British Blue heifers 18 days old to £260.
