On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 75 OTM Cattle.
Cast cows sold to a magnificent trade, surpassing vendors expectations. The whole sale averaged 166ppk for a majority show of dairy-bred cows. The sale topped at 229.5ppk/£1510.11 for a 36-month-old Charolais from Messrs IS & CA Mounsey, Town Head, purchased by Mr D Barker. This was closely followed at 226ppk for a nine-year-old British Blue cross, weighing 801kg, realising £1814.27 from Messrs MTP & SD Wills, Fawcett Park, purchased by Mr D Barker.
Younger dairy-bred Limousin cross cows achieved 225.5ppk/£1779.20 from Messrs W & SE Dickinson, Kirkbarrow Hall, purchased by Mr M Helliwell, this home also sold a Holstein cow, weighing 667kg to 189.5ppk, purchased by Mr Bowe.
Messrs Coulthard, Fellside Farm, sold 8-year-old Limousin cows to £1784.34/215.5ppk, purchased by Mr D Barker.
Young cows from Messrs Pearson, Manor Farm, averaged a staggering £1434.78/206ppk, topping at £1441/213.5ppk, purchased by Mr J Crapper.
Ten-year-old, none-farm assured, dairy-bred Hereford cows achieved £1194.98/169.5ppk from Messrs JA & NR Birkett, Briery Moss.
Black & White cows stole the show with Messrs J Armstong, Highrigg, achieving 187.5ppk for an eight-year-old cow, realising £1368.68, purchased by Mr L Fell.
Messrs Fisher, Yanwath Woodhouse, sold eight-year-old Holstein cows, straight from the parlour to £1470.84/178.5ppk. Messrs Cannon, Low Abbey, sold Holstein cows, from the parlour to £1389.10/183.5ppk. An eleven-year-old Holstein cow achieved £1434.20/177.5ppk from Messrs G & EA Harrison, Mount Clifton.
Messrs GW & A Hird, Westray, Cockermouth, sold a Limousin stock bull to £2068.52/193.5ppk, purchased by Mr Owain Llyr.
