On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of Prime Cattle.
Prime cattle came forward in larger numbers, with trade dearer than expected. The sale averaged 259ppk, topping at 265.5ppk for a superb 797kg Charolais cross Limousin bull, nineteen-months-old from Messrs Raine, Fog Close, realising £2116.04, purchased by J&E Medcalf, Halifax, with this consignment averaging £2034.05/259ppk.
A 28-month-old Simmental bull, weighing 945kg, topped at £2187.68 (231.5ppk) from Messrs G&EA Harrison, Mount Clifton, purchased by Jewitt Meat Company.
Clean heifers were short of buyers requirements with Messrs Raine, Old Parks, topping at 252.5ppk/£1729.63 for a Limousin, purchased by Cocklakes Farm Shop.
A dairy-bred Aberdeen Angus heifer, weighing 619kg, achieved £1389.56/224.5ppk from Messrs M Ridsdale & Son, Calthwaite.
