On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held a Special Show & Sale of 1,600 Store Lambs.
A marvellous show of store lambs was forward to average £90.97 for all sold. The sale topped at £152 a head for the first prize pen of lambs from Mr G Cartmel, Hollands, selling to the judge Mr Anthony Skelton. This run of 300 Beltex & 100 Mule lambs averaged a staggering £102.68. A ring full of sixty-five Mules from this home sold for £85.50 per head.
An amazing pen full of Suffolk X Mules from Mr PM Smith, Cocklakes House, averaged £94.59, topping at £100 for a pen of twenty-four, selling to Mr C Lowis. Demand across the board was very strong, with numbers way short of buyers' requirements.
