Mule Gimmer Lambs 2021
On Tuesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their Annual Sale of 10,000 North of England Mule Gimmer Lambs.
A wonderful trade was witnessed across the board for all classes with an overall sale average of £126.50 being achieved, up £21.50 per head on the year. Vendors were overwhelmed by the trade from start to finish, with several new vendors taking advantage of our well established sale.
The sale topped at £380 per head for our champion pen of lambs from Messrs S Allan & Sons, Greenhow, a superb pen of strong-boned lambs with great character, purchased by Mr P Elliott, this run averaged £137.76
This price was closely followed at £290 for our second placed pen of lambs from Messrs Lord, West Dowgill, purchased by Mr J Winter.
Top run of the day went to Messrs GA & DE Thompson, Howburn, with an average of £138.42, for well-presented tupping lambs. This was followed at £137.29 for a run of 375 lambs from Messrs S & W Maughan, Street House, topping at £170, purchased by judge Mr R Little. The majority of this run was purchased by regular customers.
This sale included a special section for Cheviot Mule lambs, once again demand was amazing with a breed average of £136.21, topping at £158 per head for the champion pen from Messrs Wood, Crosby Lodge, purchased by Mr A Geary. This was closely followed at £156 per head from Messrs R & JM Ridley, Ranbeck, for a pen of sweet, well-presented sheep, with this run averaging £150.50.
The early morning judging saw a quality gathering of show pens presented to this year’s judges Mr L Yarnold, Worcester and Mr R Little, Hesket Newmarket, with Mr J Baty, Hethersgill acting as referee.
