Rearing Calves & Stirks 230721
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 116 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
The heat was on for all sections with a full ringside of buyers forward and demand exceeding most people’s expectations.
The sale topped at £750 for a beef-bred Limousin bullock from Messrs R Hall & Son, Inglewood Edge, purchased by Mr D Holgate.
Regular mart supporter Mr B Hogg, Cairnbridge Farm, sold a pen of 4 nine-month-old British Blue bullocks to £700, purchased by Messrs J Ellwood & Partners.
Some marvellous heifer stirks, suitable for breeding, were forward from Messrs Johnston, Skirwith Abbey, topping at £620 for a five-month-old Limousin purchased by Mr WH Raine, Renwick.
A run of 3½ to 4½ month old Limousin stirks, out of British Friesian cows, averaged a staggering £530, topping at £570 from Mr DW Mallinson, Lodge Farm.
The younger end of calves sold to a dear trade with Messrs M Armstrong, Wolfa, selling eight-week-old Holsteins to £150. Messrs H & EM Hunter, Berrier End Farm, sold four-week-old Holsteins to £140.
Messrs Turnbull, Monks House, turned out their usual quality, selling eleven-week-old British Blue bulls to £550 & £540.
Lowther Park Farms, Askham, sold a pen of seven-month-old Holstein heifers to £540.
