On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held a collective sale of 48 dairy cattle, including 15 pedigree Dairy Shorthorns.
The sale topped at 2,400gns for a pedigree Dairy Shorthorn Winbrook, Peeress Rose 32 from GA & D Dent, Winton House, a new calved heifer currently giving 31ltrs, selling to Mr R Graves, Hesket Demain. This run of three correct heifers averaged £2152.
This was closely followed at 2,250gns for Mossrigg Barrington Iris 9 a strong, square, dark red freshly calved heifer from Messrs J & JM Fisher & Daughters, Holmewrangle Farm.
Holstein Friesian second calvers sold to a top of £1980 for lot 30, currently giving 47.8ltrs from Town Head Farm, Askham, selling to Messrs AD & FE Elliott, Askrigg Hall. This run of 2nd-5th calvers averaged £1427.
Thackwood Farms sold strong in-calf Holstein heifers, due July to the Aberdeen Angus, up to £1550, purchased by Mr D Hancock, Cheshire.
