On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 30 OTM Cattle.
One of the dearest trades in a long time was witnessed in the cast cow ring, with demand outstripping any other marketing system and some cows achieving over £200 per head more than on a deadweight basis.
The sale topped at £1386.90 for a Hereford cow, weighing 828kg from Mr R Richards, Dale Farm, Ainstable, purchased by Mr B Howard.
A thirteen-year-old Limousin cross cow achieved £1312.85/192.5ppk from Messrs JW & M Buckle, Bleathgill, purchased by Mr D Barker.
Messrs G & EA Harrison, Mount Clifton, sold eight-year-old Black & White cows, straight out of the parlour to a phenomenal 156.5ppk/£1194.10, purchased by Mr L Fell.
Messrs S Allan & Sons, Greenhow, sold British Friesian cows out of the parlour to £1237.21/153.5ppk, purchased by Dovecote Park.
Messrs Strong, Low Brow, sold three British Friesian cows to average £1053.50, topping at £1202.01/154.5ppk for a twelve-year-old cow purchased by Dovecote Park.
