Rearing Calves & Stirks 190321
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 135 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
Another large show of calves and stirks was forward to buyers from Aberdeen, Lanarkshire and down to West Yorkshire, resulting in customers for all classes. The sale topped at £700 per head for a pen of four British Blue cross bullocks, 7-8-months-old from JM & J Fisher & Daughters, Holme Wrangle, purchased by Mr J Dawson, many more of this type of cattle are required in a fortnights time with grass season fast approaching.
Charollias bull stirks, four-months-old, achieved £580 from regular mart supporters Messrs Messenger, Howes Farm, with this run averaging £521.67.
Mr DW Mallinson, Lodge Farm, sold a run of lovely, well-reared Limousin cross Friesian bull stirks, four-months-old to average a staggering £536.25.
Young bull calves topped at £425 for an eight-week-old Charollais bull from Fluscopike Farms.
Black & Whites sold to the dearest trade for a long time with Dolphenby Farming selling New Zealand Friesians regularly in excess of £100, topping at £145.
Several new vendors were forward to this sale once again taking advantage of the competition and demand here every fortnight.
