Store Cattle 150221
On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 277 Store Cattle.
A packed ringside of buyers was forward, including some new purchasers making an appearance. All classes were most definitely dearer on the fortnight, with many more cattle required for our next sale.
The sale topped at £1515 for a twenty-three-month-old Limousin bullock from Messrs E Hird, Park Head, purchased by Mr D Barker. This consignment of cattle averaged £1382.50.
All bullocks sold on the day averaged £1174.73, with numerous cattle in excess of £1300. A run of twelve 20–23-month-old British Blue, Hereford and Aberdeen Angus cross bullocks and heifers sold to average £1325 from Messrs A & S Robley, Nelson Hill Farm. These cattle peaked at £1475 for a British Blue bullock, and heifers topped at £1395 for an Aberdeen Angus.
Native cattle were extremely good to sell, with Mr TJ Noble, Mellgates, selling a run of Beef Shorthorn X bullocks to average £1211, topping at £1325, bought by Mr N Hetherington.
Heifers topped at £1445 for a superb Limousin X Friesian from Messrs JH & ME Chappelhow, Friendship Farm, purchased by Foley Brothers. This run of 20 dairy-bred cattle averaged a staggering £1247.94.
Messrs Smith, Far Close Farm, sold British Blue X Limousin heifers to £1425, averaging £1397.50 for this run. All heifers sold averaged a mind boggling £1107.50.
Young cattle attracted some fantastic returns, with Messrs GR Wharton & Sons, Keisley, selling fourteen-month-old Limousin heifers to £1225 purchased by Mr P Dent, others closely followed at £1145.
Messrs JE & DJ Hutchinson, Hebblethwaite Hall, sold eleven-month-old bullocks and heifers to average £1105.
