May Store Cattle Show & Sale 2024
On Monday Penrith & District Farmers' Mart LLP held their May prize show & sale of 475 Store Cattle.
The pre-sale show was expertly judged by Mr Thomas Critchley, Mercer Farm, Preston, who awarded the Champion rosette to a cracking Limousin heifer from M T P & S D Wills, Fawcett Park, this beast later went on to realise £1860, purchased by Messrs R W & G Dickinson, High Knipe.
Reserve honours went to the first prize Limousin bullock from Mr T H Harrison, Sleddale Hall, for a fourteen-month-old, which later sold for £1600, selling to the judge.
An excellect run of cattle was forward today, with a top price of £2100 being achieved for a twenty-three-month-old British Blue heifer, also from Messrs M T P & S D Wills, Fawcett Park. This home sold a fantastic run of fourteen heifers, with 6 selling in excess of £2000, and the whole run averaging a staggering £1946.
Bullocks topped at £1935 on two separate occasions, firstly for a twenty-three-month-old Charolais from Messrs J Wilson & Sons, South Field. Secondly for a nineteen-month-old Limousin from first time vendors here at Penrith, Messrs P T & J Inman, Lockerbie, this home’s run of 8 averaged £1756. Messrs Wales, Thackwood, also sold a great run of 5 big stores to top at £1905, averaging £1749.
A nice show of quality yearling cattle were forward, with Mr K J Burrow, Hacra, selling ten Limousin heifers to a top of £1605 for a pair, and averaging £1503. Younger bullocks topped at £1695 for Limousin crosses from Mr W J Wilson, Gill Head.
Once again dairy-bred cattle sold exceptionally well, with Montbeliarde bullocks topping at £1345 from Messrs Stamper, Bonny Farm. Messrs R Forrest & Son, Low Rutter, sold a great pen of six Black & White bullocks to realise £1295.
