Rearing Calves & Stirks
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 244 Rearing Calves and Stirks forward.
A bumper entry of 244 calves and stirks was forward with the biggest show of stirks seen here for a long time. The sale topped at £990 for a 9-month-old suckler-bred Limousin steer from Mr W Awde, The Old Vicarage, with this home also selling a pair of Limousin heifers to £910.
Mr BR Davidson, West View, sold a lovely consignment of 5 Limousin heifers to average £926, topping at £940 for a pen of 3.
Messrs A & W Johnston, White Fold, sold a great run of dairy-bred stirks to a top of £920 for a pair of Limousin bullocks, 12-months-old, with this home also selling a lovely pen of 3 Aberdeen Angus bullocks achieving £890. Heifers from this home topped at £885 for a pen of 3 Aberdeen Angus.
Messrs AF & BA Dawson, Rash Mill Cottage, sold a pair of 12-month-old Friesian bullocks to £860.
Younger stirks, 5 to 7-months-old, continued to fly topping at £720 for a pair of British Blue bulls from Messrs JD Bowness, Cliburn Hall. Messrs Messenger, Howes Farm, sold a run of 10 Continental stirks, 6-months-old to average £637.50.
Messrs JD & F Wharton, Town Head Farm, showed 5 excellent 6-7-month-old Limousin bulls to average £727. Over 100 stirks were forward and many more could easily be sold to vendors advantage, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Calves continue to sell exceptionally well with the younger end sharper on the week. This section topped at £640 for a 4-month-old British Blue bull from Messrs JH & JE Taylor, The Harras. Messrs W Threlfell & Son, Plumpton Head, sold a pair of 2-week-old British Blue bulls to £305. Dairy-bred calves sold to £310 for a 3-month-old Fleckvieh from Messrs Copland, Nether Colinhurst.
