On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 61 OTM Cattle.
A much sharper trade was witnessed in the cast cow ring with all classes dearer and way short of buyers’ requirements.
The sale topped at 277.5ppk/£1540.13 for an OTM store Limousin heifer from Mr J Swift, Dry Howe, purchased by Mr W Barker. This was closely followed at 247.5ppk/£1804.28 for a pure Limousin cow from TW Bell & Son, Hill Top, purchased by Jewitt Meat.
A big rise in value in the Black & White section with OTM heifers topping at 221.5ppk from Mr KJ Burne, High Barn, realising £1477.41 purchased by Mr A Jarvis. A 6-year-old Holstein cow, straight from the parlour, achieved £1762.25/185.5ppk from Messrs H & EM Hunter & Son, Berrier, purchased by Mr SH Bowes.
Parlour cows in the TB Exempt section topped at £1546.93/171.5ppk from Skirwith Abbey, purchased by Mr S McGimpsey.
A British Blue stock bull topped at £2059.20/214.5ppk from Messrs IS & CA Mounsey, Town Head, Unthank, purchased by Mr W Barker.
