January Bonanza Store Cattle - 15.01.24
On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their Annual January Bonanza Show and Sale of 739 Store Cattle, kindly sponsored by PFK Rural & I’Anson Quality Feeds.
The New Year came in with a bang with buyers commenting on the show forward both regarding strength and quality and vendors surprising expectations throughout the whole of the day. All in bullocks averaged a staggering £1447.68 topping at £2175 from Messrs T B Stamper & Son, Harrot Hill Farm, Cockermouth with a 21-month-old Limousin X Blue Bullock, selling to Mr D Barker. This consignment of 6 excellently turned-out Bullocks averaged a whopping £2011.67.
84 cattle sold in excess of £1700. Dairy bred Bullocks topped at £1785 for a pen of 4 Limousin Xs from Messrs T J & J M Powley, Blands Farm selling to Mr F Towers, this run of 20 Limousin & British Blue x Dairy Bullocks and Heifers averaged £1614.50. British Friesian Bullocks topped at £1555 for a Single followed by a pen of 6 at £1465 from Mr W H Brass, Low Row, Crosby Ravensworth.
Moving on to the Heifer section the sale topped at £2035 for a British Blue X Frisian 23-month-old from Messrs J G & R W Nevinson & Son, High House, Workington, this consignment of excellently fed cattle averaged £1868.33. An excellent consignment of 4 British Blue x Heifers from Messrs A Tiffin & Son, Wham Head topped at £1995 and the run averaged £1707.50.
A marvellous consignment was forward from the Strong family, Hewer Hill who took both Champion and Reserve Champion Honors. Champion went to a Limousin X British Blue Heifer 19-month-old achieving £1850 selling to Foley Brothers, Capheaton.
The January Sale lived up to its usual reputation with a packed ringside of buyers and an extreme trade for all classes throughout the day with vendors leaving highly delighted.
