On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 61 OTM Cattle.
A really good, fast, sharp trade was witnessed right across the board with everything dearer on the fortnight, a whole sale average of 154p/kg was achieved.
The sale topped at 267.5p/kg (£2185.48) for a forty-one-month-old British Blue bull weighing 817kgs, from Messrs F & M Townley, Nutter Farm, bought by Mr Owain Llyr. The same home sold British Blue cross cows weighing 817kgs for 255.5p/kg (£2153.87), purchased by Mr D Barker. This consignment averaged £2105 (252p/kg).
There was plenty of demand for Black & White cows, topping at £1417.99 for an eight-year-old Friesian cow, straight out of the parlour, from Mr WH Brass, Low Row, selling to Mr S McGimpsey. A twelve-year-old Friesian cow from Messrs J E & D L Hodgson, Soulby Grange achieved £1311.90/157.5p/kg. Young cows topped at 189.5p/kg from Messrs Fisher, Yanwath Woodhouse.
A twelve-year-old Dairy Shorthorn cow achieved a top of 147.5p/kg (£945.48) from Messrs A H Ritson, Ireby Hall.
