On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 150 Store Cattle.
Another flying trade was witnessed as demand continues to grow, with all classes in short supply.
The sale topped at £1455 for a twenty-three-month-old, none farm assured, Charolais X British Blue bullock from Mr EA Harrison, Scar Side Farm, selling to Mr R Dickinson. This run of cattle averaged £1387.50.
Native bred cattle sold exceptionally well with Aberdeen Angus bullocks topping at £1375 from Messrs A & S Robley, Nelson Hill Farm. A run of 10 Aberdeen Angus, Beef Shorthorn and Luing bullocks from Westmorland Chapel Farm averaged £1319, topping at £1355 for a Luing bullock.
Dairy bred Limousin bullocks sold to £1345 from Messrs Todd, Croft Head, selling to Mr D Barker.
Heifers achieved a top price of £1355 on the day, this was paid for a British Blue X Hereford from Messrs A & S Robley, Nelson Hill Farm. This run of cattle averaged £1268.33. S & A Ryder, Holme House sold none farm assured Charolais heifers to £1345.
Young cattle were very good to sell with Messrs E & R Brass & Son, Barnskew, selling ten-month-old Beef Shorthorn bullocks to £1045, bought by Mr J Little. Messrs Elliott Bros, Harbour Flatt, sold twelve-month-old Limousin bullocks to £1085, with a pen full at £1065, selling to Mr J Little & Mr D Barker respectively.
All classes of cattle are required for our next sale, which is The Annual March sale of Top-Quality Continental store cattle and feeding bulls being held on Monday 15th March. Entries close Noon Monday 8th March.
