Rearing calves & stirks 131023
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 141 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
Another large offering of calves was forward, with younger calves far easier to sell on the week. The sale topped at £900 on two occasions, firstly for a cracking pen of four Limousin Bulls from Messrs Mattocks, Auldby Farm. Secondly for a lovely 9-month-old British Blue Bullock from Messrs Messenger, Howes Farm. Messrs Mattocks also sold two Friesian Bulls to £700. Many more stirks are required to fulfil buyers’ requirements.
Calves topped at £500 for three lovely 4-month-old Limousin Heifers from Mr DW Mallinson, Lodge Farm. Messrs Sowerby, Townhead Farm showed a superb run of British Blue X calves to top at £425 for a bull, this consignment averaged £377 for seven younger calves selling very well. Black and Whites continued to hold firm, topping at £300 from Mr DW Mallinson, Lodge Farm.
