Late Summer Sale of Dairy Cattle 180823
On Friday 18th August Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their Late Summer Show & Sale of Dairy Shorthorns & Dairy Cattle of other breeds, kindly sponsored by I’Anson Quality Feeds.
A great offering of dairy cattle was forward at our late summer sale with very healthy classes of freshly calved Dairy Shorthorn and Holstein Friesian heifers on offer.
The sale topped at £2800 for our first placed Holstein Friesian heifer, a strong, well put together beast giving 25 litres, calved 12 days from Messrs Dent, Kaber Fold, purchased by S&R Farming, Berwick upon Tweed. All Black & White in-milk heifers sold to average £1950.
Champion honours in the Dairy Shorthorn section went to lot 1 from Mr D Jackson, Firbank, with Tahuna Alice 29, calved 1st August and giving 22 litres, realising £2257.50/2150gns, purchased by our judge Mr K Birkett, White Lund Farm.
Our third placed Dairy Shorthorn heifer from noted breeder and regular sale supporter Messrs GA & D Dent, Winton House, achieved £2677.50/2550gns, purchased by S&R Farming.
A consignment of 4 in-calf Holstein heifers averaged £1562.50 from Mr WR Wilson, South View, topping at £1650, all due October/November to the Holstein bull.
All in all, demand and trade surpassed all expectations and many more could have been so to the vendor’s advantage.
