Early Breeding Ewes & Tups 160823

On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their early sale of Breeding Ewes and Rams.

A lovely show of well-presented breeding ewes was brought out, with demand extremely high for all classes. The sale topped at £225 twice, firstly for a pen of ten lovely Texel cross shearlings from Messrs JA & HA Chapman, North Lodge, purchased by Messrs CL & ME Howe, Colene Croft, this home sold 29 to average £205. Secondly, Miss H Wilson, Swallow Heights, sold a pen of five Beltex X Charollais shearlings for £225 per head, selling to Messrs Metcalfe, Home Farm. This home also sold five pure Charollais three shear ewes for £195 and £192.

Seymour Farms had a run of Suffolk X shearlings which attracted high interest, with a pen of ten selling for £195 to Mr M Strong, Hewer Hill Farm.

Mr RW Armstrong, Garth House, sold thirteen dry Mule shearling ewes for £150 per head.

Tups topped at £580 for a Beltex shearling from Mr J Hewson, Burgh Head, selling to Mr A Bell, Thethwaite. This was closely followed at £500 for a Suffolk lamb from the same home, also for a Charollais shearling from Swallow Heights.
