Rearing Calves & Stirks 210723
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 167 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
Another good entry was forward with calves a flying trade once again. The sale topped at £850 for a lovely 9-month-old dairy-bred British Blue bull from Messrs J & B Donald & Son, Lamonby Hall, this home also sold a pen of 3 to £790, all purchased by Mr R Field.
Heifers topped at £810 for a pair of strong 12-month-old British Blues from Mr PJ Monkhouse, Calebreck Hall, also purchased by Mr R Field. Mr M Trotter, High Greenrigg Farm, sold a run of 3 yearling Hereford stirks to average £723.
A great trade was witnessed for all classes and more could easily be sold to vendors’ advantage. The sale topped at £505 for a lovely British Blue bull from Messrs Sowerby, Townhead Farm, with this home also topping heifers at £480.
Messrs Turnbull, Monks House, sold a run of 6-week-old British Blue bulls to £490 & £480.
Messrs G & EA Harrison, Mount Clifton, sold a run of 7 Aberdeen Angus bull calves to average £340. Black & White calves continue to sell exceptionally well, with strong calves regularly £200 plus.
