On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 216 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A great day’s trading here at Penrith with a wonderful entry of 216 calves and stirks forward and an abundance of well reared cattle on offer with the majority between 4-6 months old. The sale topped at £850 for a lovely 10-month-old Limousin heifer from Mr WJ Dawson, Rash Mill Cottage. This was closely followed at £765 for a lovely 10-month-old Fleckvieh bullock from Messrs Dodd, Roanstrees.
Skirwith Abbey sold a great run of 30 Continental and Aberdeen Angus bull and heifer stirks, 3 to 5-months-old to average £507.50, topping at £660 for a British Blue bull. Demand continues to be exceptionally high for these types and many more can be sold fortnightly.
A smaller offering of young calves was forward, with well-reared types between 3 to 6-weeks-old the easiest to sell. Messrs Threlfell, Plumpton Head, topped his run at £365 for a 6-week-old British Blue bull calf. Once again strong Black & White calves sold with ease, topping at £245 from Messrs Taylor, The Harras.
