On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 82 OTM Cattle.
An excellent number of cast cows was forward to a very active ring of buyers. An overall sale average of 193ppk was achieved, topping at 287.5pk from first time vendor Messrs J G & S M Tallentire, High Griseburn, with a Simmental cross British Blue young cow totalling £1837.30 with this consignment averaging 258ppk/£1466.61.
A 9-year-old Limousin cross British Blue cow topped at £2305.44/264.5ppk from Messrs J E & D J Hutchinson, Hebblethwaite Hall purchased by Mr Owain Llyr.
All Holstein cows forward averaged £1226.96/167ppk, peaking at £1224.50/197.5ppk from Messrs Strong, Low Brow, for a none farm assured cow.
Holstein cows out the parlour through our TB exempt section achieved £1649.80/182.5ppk from Skirwith Abbey, purchased by Mr L Fell, with this consignment averaging £1425/178ppk.
Messrs H & E M Hunter & Son, Cape Farm sold a run of 5 to average £1376/179ppk, topping at £1595.30/185.5ppk.
Our total sale averaged £1368.99, with a TB exempt Simmental X, 6 year old cow from Messrs R W Sowerby & Son, Sycamore Rise realising £2036.96/219.5ppk.
A consignment of suckler-bred cows from Messrs R & J M Ridley, Ranbeck averaged £1634.55/230ppk, topping at 255.5ppk for a Limousin X British Blue selling to Mr Owain Llyr.
