Prime Sheep - 11.01.23
On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 5,070 prime sheep, comprising of 2,411 prime hoggs & 2,659 cast ewes & rams.
Demand for Prime Hoggs increased as the sale quickly got going, resulting in a sale average of 246ppk being achieving topping at 335ppk, with a pen of Beltex x Lambs weighing 37kg’s totalling £124 from J Marshall, Hermitage, Lockerbie purchased by Mr R Vivers with this consignment averaging 312ppk.
Messrs Crozier & Langcake sold 44kg Texel lambs to achieve £144 purchased by Mr M Bowe.
Messrs T E Irving & Sons, East Cliffe sold a consignment of Texel x & Suffolk x lambs full of meat, fed properly to average 247ppk (£150 / 52. 5kgs) and achieving £135 for Suffolk x lambs.
57kg English Mules topped at £120 for a pen of 55kg from Riverside Farming.
In the Cast Ewe ring our numbers rose back to normal and presented to a busy ring side of 12 strong active buyers. Resulting in plenty of demand and spirited bidding. Once again numerous pens of ewes £200 ahead plus, topping at £265 from Tarn End Farm purchased by Mr J Linsley.
Suffolk ewes topped at £168 from Backmuir Livestock and a ringfull of 24 Suffolk x achieving £156 purchased to Pak Mecca Meats.
Horned ewes with flesh sold very well but plenty of ewes showing the weather. Swaledales topped at £78 for a pen of 12 from M/s Fleming & Wilson, Low Mill and a ring full of 27 Scotch Blackface to £81 from Drumreach Farm purchased by Pickstock Foods.
