On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 258 Store Cattle & Feeding Bulls.
Demand for both strength and meat held exceptionally well, with Messrs TE Clarke, Howgill Castle achieving £1615 for a twenty-month-old Limousin bullock, selling to Mr D Barker. This consignment of 18-19-month-old cattle averaged £1507.
Twenty-four-month-old dairy-bred British Blue bullocks topped at £1435 from Messrs D & J Errington, Annfield. The same home topped the heifer section at £1475 with a Limousin X Hereford, selling to Mr A Skelton. This consignment averaged £1375 for both bullocks and heifers.
Twenty-one-month-old, dairy-bred, none-farm-assured British Blue heifers achieved £1355 from WH Raine, Renwick.
Younger cattle still held well, especially quality, with a consignment of 14-15-month-old Limousin bullocks from Messrs CW & Y Dixon & Son, Haresceugh Castle, averaging £1207.50.
