On Monday Penrith & District Farmers Mart held their fortnightly sale of 80 OTM cattle.
Plenty of numbers came forward once again with a large offering of plain and feeding cows. The sale topped at 213.5ppk for a 10-year-old British Blue X Limousin cow from Messrs RW Sowerby & Sons, Sycamore Rise, realising £1513.72, purchased by Mr D Barker. This home also topped per head with a Limousin cow achieving £1679.58, with this consignment averaging 202ppk/£1596.65.
A consignment of three Black & White cows averaged £1324.78/164.5ppk from Messrs Walsh, Bunkers Hill, topping at £1350.85 purchased by Mr L Fell. Young Holstein cows topped at 182.5ppk/£1297.50 from Mr KJ Burne, High Barn. A 10-year-old British Friesian straight from the parlour achieved 159.5ppk/£1204.23 from Messrs CM & CS Chappelhow, High Grounds. Messrs Wilson, Hardrigg Hall, sold a run of Holstein cows straight from the parlour to average £1168.37/161ppk, topping at £1294.92.
A 10-year-old Saler cow achieved £1423.31/175.5ppk from Mr AG Teasdale, Colstons. A TB-exempt Saler stock bull achieved £1684.34/185.5ppk from Messrs ER Toppin, Gale Hall, purchased by Mr D Barker.
