Prime Sheep - 26.10.22
On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 5,106 prime sheep, comprising of 2,320 prime lambs & 2,786 cast ewes and rams.
Quality leads the way once again with demand holding equally as strong topping at 345ppk from M/s W Gribbon, Waterside Farm with a pen of 40kg Beltex x Texel lambs, totalling £138 purchased by Mr James Blenkhorn.
45kg Beltex x lambs from Messrs R Hall & Son, Inglewood Edge achieved £146 (324ppk), also purchased by Mr James Blenkhorn.
A great consignment of 26 Texel X Beltex lambs from Mr J Mattinson, Green Farm, Bassenthwaite averaged 40kg’s, £118 (295ppk).
Heavy lambs topped at £140 for Charolais’s weighing 69kg’s from Tarn End Farm purchased by Farmers Fresh Wales Ltd.
The trade for cast ewes and tups held well with Mr J Winter, Clickham topping at £280 for a pair of Texel’s purchased by Mr James Linsley. The same home selling a pen of 4 at £270 purchased by Yorkshire Halal.
Numerous pens of ewes sold in excess of £200 with heavy fat ewes still £130 - £140 with English Mules achieving £120 from M/s P D Hird, Broomhills purchased by Mr A Dawson.
Swaledale ewes topped at £70 ahead from M/s Marston, Millstone Moor and also selling a ringfull of Bluefaced Leicester ewes to £133 and tups to £155 all being purchased by Mr A Dawson.
