Suckler Show & Sale 2022
On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their annual prize show & sale of suckled calves, followed by store cattle of all classes. This sale also included a section for breeding cattle.
A fantastic entry of suckled calves was placed before Mr J Crichton, Loughrigg, Egremont, who did an excellent job of judging the cattle.
Championship honours were given to Messrs E S & D Noble, Mill Farm, with their first placed Blonde d’Aquitaine bullock which later achieved £1020, purchased by E & M Townley & Son, Clapham. The reserve champion honours went to Mr C Butterworth, Bolton Mill, for their second placed Limousin bullock, he later realised £985, bought by Mr AR Edmondson, Ulverston.

Store cattle held up with recent rates, with no let up in demand. The sale topped at £1,715 for an eighteen-month-old Limousin X bullock from Messrs TE Clarke, Howgill Castle, selling to Mr D Barker.
Dairy-bred Aberdeen Angus bullocks topped at £1,575 from Mr R Dawson, Southwaite Farm. The same home topped the heifer section at £1,655 for a Limousin X British Blue selling to Mr D Whaite.
A pair of dairy-bred British Blue heifers from Mr M Holmes, Tiley Farm, achieved £1,315.
Eighteen-month-old Aberdeen Angus heifers achieved £1,335 from Messrs Jenkinson, Whingill, selling to Mr N Hetherington.
None farm assured Beef Shorthorn bullocks, twenty-month-old, achieved £1,455 from Messrs JE Bellas & Sons, Croft Ends Farm. This consignment of cattle averaged £1193.64.
Twenty-six-month-old British Friesian bullocks topped at £1,315 from Mr WH Brass, Low Row, bought by Mr D Barker.
