Prime Sheep 191022
On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 6,266 prime sheep, comprising of 2,907 prime lambs & 3,365 cast ewes and rams.
A large entry of prime lambs achieved an SQQ average of 240ppk, topping at 324ppk for a pen of 42kg Beltex X Texel lambs from Messrs W Gribbon & Co, Waterside Farm, realising £136 purchased by Mr J Blenkhorn, with this consignment averaging 300ppk/£128.
Several pens of lambs achieved £140 per head, with the whole sale averaging £112.48. Suffolk X Mule lambs topped at £138 for 59kg from Mr WH Brass, Low Row.
A consignment of 41 Suffolk X Mule lambs averaged 230ppk/£128 from Messrs TE Irving & Sons, East Cliff.
A pen of 27 Mule lambs, weighing 44kg, achieved £102/232ppk from Messrs Elliott Bros, Harbour Flatt, purchased by Mr R Skelton.
Messrs R & JM Ridley, Ranbeck, sold 55kg Cheviot Mule lambs to £123, with several other pens from this home also achieving 232ppk.
Ewes came forward again in huge numbers, topping at £305 for a pure Texel ewe from Tarn End, purchased by Mr James Linsley.
A total of 16 lots sold in excess of £200, with Almond & Crossland, Irton House, Cockermouth, averaging £209.75 for a consignment of sixteen Texel X ewes.
Quality and weight was in short supply and many more of this class could have been sold.
Suffolk ewes topped at £162, with many more pens over £140.
Swaledale ewes topped at £78 from Messrs W & R Lawson, Stubsgill Farm, purchased by Mr A Dawson.
Tups with weight were good to sell, topping at £170 from Holme House, purchased by Yorkshire Halal.
