Rearing Calves & Stirks 141022
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A fantastic show of 209 was forward with some lovely consignments throughout the sale, topping at £900 for a lovely pen of fourteen-month-old Montbeliarde bullocks from Messrs D Burne, Town End Farm, purchased by Mr J Little, this home also sold a packet of six Holstein bullocks to £690.
Fleckvieh bullocks topped at £780 from Messrs AF & BA Dawson, Rash Mill Cottage. A pen of three ten-month-old Aberdeen Angus bullocks achieved £740 from Mr AP Mason, Looking Flatt. Heifer stirks topped at £710 for a British Blue heifer from Mr PJ Monkhouse, Calebreck Hall.
A much larger show of young calves was forward with well-shaped types easy to sell. This section topped at £400 for a British Blue bull from Donaldsons Dairy, Threapthwaite Farm.
Aberdeen Angus calves attracted strong interest, topping at £270 Messrs JAH Walton & Son, Bank View, with this home also selling a Charolais bull calf to £300. Black & White calves topped at £145 from Messrs JH & JE Taylor, The Harras.
