Rearing Calves & Stirks 300922
On Friday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 111 Rearing Calves and Stirks.
A lovely show of cattle was forward with some great runs of both calves and stirks, all classes sold to a brisker trade than the previous fortnight. The sale topped at £740 for a British Blue cross bullock from Messrs J & B Donald & Son, Lamonby House, purchased by Mr J Ellwood.
A great run of 4-6-month-old-stirks from Green Farm topped at £720 for a Limousin cross bull, closely followed by a pair at £710 all purchased by Mr R Field. Heifers from the same home topped at £660 for a Limousin purchased by Mr J Little.
A good show of young calves sold to far sharper rates, with the new sale format seeing these going through the ring first. This section topped at £470 for a Limousin bull from first-time vendors Messrs M & K Palmer, Grange Farm, purchased by Mr B Atkinson, this home also sold British Blue bulls to £455. Heifers topped at £350 for a British Blue from Messrs JH & JE Taylor, The Harras.
A great run of Black & White calves from Messrs Mattocks, Aulby, topped at £195 for a pen of three.
