Store Cattle 120922

On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their Bank Holiday sale of 412 Store Cattle & Feeding Bulls.

Another large show of store was forward once again to a complete ringside of buyers, this ensured a strong trade throughout the sale, with no let-up in demand.

This sale was up 100 head on the corresponding sale last year, with a total of forty-one selling in excess of £1,400. The sale topped at £1835 twice, firstly for a sixteen-month-old Limousin X British Blue bullock from Messrs MTP & SD Wills, Fawcett Park, purchased by Mr F Towers. This was matched by a twenty-nine-month-old none farm assured Limousin bullock from Mr B Walton, Goodlie Hill Farm, selling to Mr D Barker.

Topping the heifer section at £1755 was a twenty-three-month-old Limousin heifer from Mr JD Bowman, Croft House. This consignment averaged £1638.33.

Another consignment that stood out was a run of twenty-four-month-old Limousin heifers from Mr EJ Lister, Cockley Gill Farm, Lamplugh, averaged £1605.

Dairy-bred cattle sold well all day, with a pen of three Angus X British Friesians realising £1615 from WH Brass, Low Row. A run of Limousin X Holstein bullocks & heifers averaged £1340.71, topping at £1555 for a bullock from Messrs DG & LM Strong, Sleagill House.

A pen of 6 Black & White bullocks, 21-23mths old sold for £1245 per head from Messrs DW Burne & Son, Greenlands.

Native cattle sold exceptionally well, with a consignment of natural Beef Shorthorn bullocks, 16-17-moths-old, straight off the grass to average £1175, topping at £1225, purchased by Mr N Hetherington.
