On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their Bank Holiday sale of 335 Store Cattle & Feeding Bulls.
A marvellous show of store cattle was forward, with numbers up by over 100 head on the year. All bullocks sold to average £1,209.24, topping at £2,155 for a superb twenty-one-month-old Limousin X British Blue bullock from Backmuir Livestock, Aberdeen, purchased by Mr F Towers. The same home also sold heifers to a top of £1,875 for a Charolais X Simmental, selling to Mr D Barker. This consignment averaged £1,856.
A consignment of twenty-six dairy-bred British Blue bullocks and heifers from Mr J Barker, Capplegill, Moffat, averaged a staggering £1,468.85, topping at £1,585 for a pair of bullocks. This was closely followed at £1,505 for a pen of five heifers, all selling to Mr F Towers.
A wonderful consignment of 24-26-month-old Limousin X cattle from Mr JD Bowman, Croft House, averaged £1,651.67, topping at £1,685.
Native-bred heifers sold exceptionally well, with a pen of four 20-21-month-old dairy-bred Aberdeen Angus’s achieving £1,195 from Messrs M Ridsdale & Son, Yew Tree Farm, bought by Mr J Linsley.
