On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly Sale of 382 Store Cattle & Feeding Bulls.
One of the best shows of store cattle seen in a long time was forward from both local and travelled vendors. The sale included a consignment of fifty-two of some of the finest cattle from Mr Blair Duffton, Aberdeen, averaging £1687.02, with six selling over £2000 per head, topping at £2240 for a 24-month-old Limousin cross British Blue bullock, purchased by Mr D Barker. This same home also sold ten heifers in excess of £1800 per head, topping at £2000 purchased by Mr D Whaite.
Throughout the sale a total of 51 cattle sold in excess of £1500, with Mr JD Bowman, Croft House, averaging £1658.33, topping at £1755 for a Limousin bullock, purchased by Mr F Towers.
A consignment of four 18-20 month old British Blue heifers averaged a staggering £1452.50 from Messrs A Tiffin & Son, Wham Head Farm.
Dairy-bred cattle sold to a sharp trade throughout the sale with Messrs NM Strong, Street House, selling 24-month-old Holstein cross Montbeliarde bullocks to average £1338.75, topping at £1545.
Holstein cross Aberdeen Angus bullocks topped at £1465 for a pen of three from Messrs S & W Maughan, Street House, with this consignment averaging £1407.86.
