On Monday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their fortnightly sale of 78 OTM Cattle.
A huge offering of cast cows was forward to a complete ringside of buyers, demand held strong throughout, with a whole sale average of 176ppk/£1177.30 being achieved.
The sale topped at 238.5ppk for a Limousin cross British Blue cow from Messrs JE & LM Raine & Son, Ravenwood, realising £1702.89, purchased by Mr R Dickinson, this consignment of six cows averaged £1475.63/220ppk.
A twelve-year-old well-fed Limousin cow, weighing 873kg, achieved £1872.59/214.5ppk from Messrs G & JE Bell, Far Broom.
A total of 18 cows sold in excess of 200ppk, with Black & White over-age heifers topping at £1258.79/210.5ppk for a none-farm assured heifer, weighing 598kg from Mr C Edmondson, Greening.
Holstein cows, straight from the parlour, topped at £1516.32/175.5ppk from Messrs H & EM Hunter & Son, Cape Farm, purchased by Mr L Fell, this run averaged £1401.76/171ppk.
A consignment of dairy-bred Hereford cows averaged £1563.95/195ppk from Messrs IS & CA Mounsey, Town Head, topping at 203.5ppk.
Cast bulls topped at £1495.59/173.5ppk for a twelve-year-old Limousin stock bull, weighing 862kg from Messrs IM Benson, Fell Foot Farm, purchased by Jewitt Meat Company.
